Winfield Farm
Small Scale Sustainable Farming
Weed control is very important on Winfield Farm. If left to grow, we would not be able to see three feet in front of us. Since we do not have time to mow every day, we have miniature goats. They are allowed to graze at will, provided they stay far from the gardens. They have been known to nibble on a few newly sprouted seedlings.
Each night they are called back into their pen for safekeeping.
We rotate our gardens, and at end of the season, the goats are allowed to "clear" the gardens of all the plant matter. We then till and amend the soil and begin again, with fatter goats in the process.
Someday we may even figure out how to milk them and start producing goat milk.
